Mary A. Vargas (Alamanza), age 81, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, October 3, 2022 at 7:15 p.m.
She was born on September 26, 1941 in Cypress, Texas, the daughter of Jose and Luz Alamanza.
When Mary was in the 10th grade her family moved to Hearne, Texas and this is where she met the love of her life, Caldo Vargas. They were married two years later on December 20, 1960, and together they spent 53 years of marriage until he passed away on November 23, 2014.
Mary and Caldo were involved mowing the cemetery in Hearne, Texas and cleaned St. Mary’s Church for several years. They were also involved in the church Bazzars in Houston, Texas.
In 1961, she gave birth to her daughter, Theresa Vargas Meza. Then in 1963 she birthed her son Philip Vargas. Lastly, in 1967, she gave birth to third and final son, Juan Vargas.
Mary was a country girl who loved animals and helping her daddy in the garden. Later in life she was a mail sorter with BEB but her favorite job was being a mom. Mary loved watching her sons play baseball, she was their BIGGEST cheerleader! She always had a clean house, she cooked and loved her children endlessly.
In her spare time she enjoyed reading, sewing, cooking and loved her Chihuahua’s, Popeye, Pepper and Ollie Girl.
She is survived by Theresa and her husband Estefan Meza from Houston, TX; Philip and Carmen Vargas from Hearne, TX; Juan and his wife Diane Vargas from Sommerville, TX; 8 grandchildren, 10 great grand children, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mary’s siblings are John and Virginia Alamanza from Lubbock, TX, Margaret and Carlos Martinez from McAllen, TX, Carmen and the late Don Martin from Sherman, TX, Tomasa and the late Tony Barrera from Hearne, TX.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Luz and Jose Alamanza
Even though Mary has gone to be with the Lord, she will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friends. Those she leaves behind will forever cherish her memories.
