Jesse Gail Mitchell, Jr.

Jesse Gail Mitchell, Jr. passed away peacefully on November 23, 2023 at his home, in Hearne at the age of 84.

Born on October 10, 1939 he was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Opal Mitchell, son, Dean Mitchell, brother-in-law John Hunn and daughter-in-law, Lisa Mitchell.

Jesse is survived by his wife of 64 years, Kathy Cooper Mitchell. Children Eric Mitchell, Jayne Nichols and Tommy Durham, Lanette Hanna and husband Russell, and daughter-in-law Beverly Boggs Mitchell. Grandchildren Allison Smith and husband Kenneth, Winona Alligood and husband Chris, Meredith Mitchell, Bonnie Boggs Portillo and husband Dustin, Ashley Blomberg and husband John.  Great- Grandchildren Sidney Smith, Sloan Smith, Kaden Alligood, Christian Alligood, Cooper Alligood and Olivia Portillo and Katie Blomberg. Siblings Nelda Hunn, Janice Posey and husband Byron, LaVerne Degelia and husband Frankie. Brother-in-law Tom Cooper and wife Darlene, Brother-in-law Richard Campbell and wife Suzie and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Jesse and Kathy were married April 10, 1959 and spent their life in and around Hearne, including several years in Gause.

His work history included VitraTech, Hearne Cable, GATX and he owned his own muffler shop and in later years a feed store but still continued to install mufflers.

He was a welder, loved bass fishing, cattle and gardening but his passion was music. He played the guitar and sang. He loved watching music videos and Circle TV. He was a story- teller and loved practical jokes. Wherever he was ... you knew he was there.

The family invites you to stop by the First Baptist Church Family Life Center in Hearne on Monday, November 27 between 12 and 1:30 to visit and share memories. A memorial service will follow at 2 pm at First Baptist Church.
