Jerry Wayne Nichols

February 13, 1946 — December 14, 2024

“Death where is thy victory? Grave where is thy sting? But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1Corinthians 15: 57,59

“...to be absent from the body, is to be present with the Lord.” 2Corinthians 5:8

Death is not the end, but a transition. Jerry has indeed transitioned into a life he has anticipated for years, given his faith in and love for Jesus. He was born February 13, 1946, and received his grand inheritance on December 14, at his home in Wheelock, TX.

It has long-since been said that Jerry was born 100 years too late, because he was an “old cowboy” in every sense of the word. His love for everything “old west” ranged from a large sky full of stars, his taste in décor, Old Westerns, and his work as a rancher, to the now-famous Lonesome Dove-inspired old west town he built on his property. His personality was the stuff of legend, with a humor you didn’t have to be country to appreciate. Jerry bravely served his country in Vietnam and was passionate about his fellow veteran

He loved Jesus, his family, and animals of EVERY kind...usually in that order! He was known to raise baby animals to maturity, including racoons, a crow, an owl, and even an entire family of skunks! (You read that right!) They broke the mold with Jerry, and he leaves behind an unfillable void.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard Lee and Marion Nichols of Austin; his brother, Temple Ray Nichols of Austin; and his granddaughter Emily Nichols of College Station.

He is survived by wife, Becky Nichols, of Wheelock; sons Kip Nichols and wife Kristy of Wheelock and Chad Nichols of Waco; grandson Chase Nichols of College Station; granddaughters Carly Malone and husband Colin of Wheelock; and Lacey Nichols and fiancé Caleb Gomez of Lubbock; sister, Donna Moreno and husband Fred of Manor; brother Howard (Bubba) Nichols and wife Patsy of Austin; and sister Sheila Forrest of Gatesville. He also leaves behind a host of beloved aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and neighbors who all called him their friend.

A memorial service in Jerry’s honor will be held Friday, December 20 at 2pm, with visitation to precede (1-2pm). Services held at Five Points Baptist Church, 9267 FM 2549, Bryan, TX 77808. In lieu of flowers, donations can also be made to Five Points Baptist Church, a community of believers he had an immense love for.
