Eugene "Gene" White, 81, of Franklin, Texas, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2024 with his three loving daughters by his side.
Born on May 11, 1943, in Hardin County, Texas, he was the second of ten children born to O.L. and Vera White.
Gene was preceded in death by his beloved wife of almost 40 years, Gloria White, and several brothers and sisters. He is survived by his children: Michael White, Diana Ferrell, Anthony Mata and his wife Suzie, Sondra Anspach and her husband David, and Angie Johnson. He also leaves behind his cherished siblings: Robert Lee White, Marion White, Doris Eisfeldt, and Horace White. Gene was a proud grandfather to 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, who were the lights of his life.
Gene was known for his love of the great outdoors, especially hunting with his close-knit group of friends, affectionately known as "the hunting buddies”. He dedicated 17 years as the Executive Director of the Franklin Housing Authority, where he tirelessly supported and uplifted his community. His passion for helping others was evident in all he did, and he took immense pride in being an enthusiastic supporter of his children's and grandchildren's school events and sports games, often the loudest cheerleader in the stands.
In his earlier years, Gene served in the U.S. Army and spent time stationed in Alaska, where he created lasting memories. He also enjoyed a diverse career as a truck driver, where he earned the CB handle "Butterbean” and worked for many years as a Foreman and Inspector at GATX in Hearne, Texas.
Gene was well-known in the community for his warm spirit and love of conversation—he could talk your ear off, always making friends and sharing stories with neighbors. He had a knack for experimenting with food, often to the amusement (and sometimes the chagrin) of his children. A master griller, Gene was especially proud of his brisket and homemade BBQ sauce, which were family favorites.
The family invites everyone to join them for food and fellowship at 12:30 PM at Franklin Fire Station #2, 129 Redden Lane Franklin, TX 77856.
Rest in peace, Gene. Your legacy of love and laughter will live on in the hearts of your family and friends.
