Callie Lee Cunningham, 80, of Gause, Texas passed away surrounded by her loving family on April 30, 2024 in College Station, Texas.
Callie was born June 15, 1943 to Lizzie Lee Light and George Carl Light. The eldest of 3 daughters, she spent much of her time outdoors and loved to fish. She loved to read and excelled in her schoolwork. She graduated from Hearne High School in 1961.
Callie married Bill Anderson Cunningham on May 5, 1977 and they made their lifelong home in Gause.
True to her belief in a strong education, she returned to school later in life and achieved a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Sam Houston State University.
After achieving her degree, Callie found joy in her true calling, teaching Special Education at Milano ISD. Continuing her advocacy for education, Callie served her community on the Gause ISD Board of Trustees for many years.
Callie enjoyed working in her yard and loved beautiful plants. She also enjoyed quick trips for food and fun. Callie had the best longtimecompanion pup "GR” who could often be seen as her riding partner around the roads for Milam County.
Callie is preceded in death by parents Lizzie and George Light, beloved husband, Bill Cunningham and daughter, Rose Fisher.
Callie is survived by children Carl Turnage and wife Melissa, Gause, Billy Cunnigham and wife Kim, Gause, sister Georgia Wise, Gause and Mary Mathews, Gause. Grandchildren: Jessica Schulz and husband Wesley, Samantha Fisher, Jerred Turnage and wife Angie, Masey Kinseland husband Matt, Jake Turnage and fiancé Kaitlyn Telg and Lizzy Cunningham and 10 great grand-children and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their gratitude and appreciation for those that helped provide her amazing and loving care: the staff at Hudson Creek, Lisa at Standards Home Health, Baylor Scott and White Palliative Care, Dr. Jacque Covington, and the care team of Acara Hospice.
Pallbearers: Jerred Turnage, Jacob Turnage, Wesley Schulz, Vince Mathews, Mikel Reed and Garrett Reed.
Arrangements are under Memorial Funeral Home, Hearne, Texas.
