Mrs. Bonnie Richards was born on August 4, 1931 to Hugh and Ruby Martin in Butterfield, Arkansas, and passed away in Houston, Texas on January 6, 2023 at the age of 91, surrounded by her family.
Bonnie moved to Houston, Texas around 1950 to attend business school. She met and married Vernon Chamblee, Sr. in 1951 and two children were born from this union, Vernon Chamblee Jr and Debra Kay Tomasino. She then married the love of her life James Richards aka “Hatchett” 1977. Hatchet brought three bonus children into her life.
Bonnie and her husband lived in Houston off Hwy 90 until he retired in early 1990’s then they moved to Calvert, TX. Bonnie enjoyed time out with her husband and friends at their local hang out along Hwy 90 where she enjoyed dancing and having her beer. When they moved to Calvert they had a local bar called Lone Oak that they frequented with many friends. While living in the country Bonnie and her husband enjoyed gardening, canning, BBQing, making wine, making jelly, tending the cattle, fishing and hunting. If you knew Bonnie you she was a lady who loved having fun, dancing and was always straight to the point with her words.
In 2010 granny had a stroke and moved in with her daughter to be taken care of. After several years granny had to move into an Assisted Living where she made several friends and began playing bingo and then began her love of jewelry making as you can see by looking around. A lot of us are wearing her necklaces today as she requested.
She is preceded in death by her husband Hatchett, parents Hugh & Ruby Martin, her twin sister Bobbie Jean, sister Faye Holliman and brother in law Levi Ray, and bonus son Clyde Richards.
Bonnie leaves her memories to be cherished by her son Vernon Chamblee Jr and wife Janice, daughter Debra Kay Tomasino, bonus children, Jimmy Richards and wife Sandra, Trisha Sachs and husband Donovan, daughter in law Tracey Richards, 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great- grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews.
